Overview
Publishing is the bridge between a Studio place file and a link players can join. Many beginners confuse “Save to Roblox” with “public on Discover” — those are different steps.
This walkthrough covers the Creator Dashboard settings that matter before you invite friends: privacy, max players, thumbnails, and a short description that sets expectations.

Steps

Save and open Creator Dashboard
In Studio, save the place to Roblox. Then open Create on roblox.com → Creations → Experiences and select your place. Confirm the owner account matches the Studio login.

Set name, description, and genre
Use a clear name without fake “OBBY FREE ROBUX” spam. Write a short description of what players do in the first minute. Pick the closest genre so Roblox can categorize the place correctly.

Add thumbnails and an icon
Upload at least one clean thumbnail that shows the actual spawn area. Avoid stolen art or misleading screenshots. Icons and thumbnails are the first trust signal for friends testing your build.

Choose privacy, then enable play
Keep the experience Private or Friends-only while testing. When ready, set it Public (or the current equivalent access setting), publish from Studio one more time, and join with a second account to verify spawn, GUIs, and basic scripts.
Tips
- Test on mobile after publishing — UI that looks fine on a 1440p monitor can clip on phones.
- Cap Max Players reasonably for your map size so servers do not feel empty or overloaded.
- Turn on Studio Access to Places for collaborators carefully; only invite people you trust with edit rights.
- Version history in Studio helps you roll back a bad publish.

- Why can’t friends join?
- Usually the experience is still private, they are not friends with the owner, or you published an old place slot. Recheck access settings and the exact experience URL.
- Do I need age guidelines filled out?
- Yes for public discovery in many cases. Complete questionnaire fields honestly so Roblox can apply the right experience guidelines.
- Can I unpublish later?
- You can set the experience back to private or shut off public access from Creator Dashboard if you need to take it offline for fixes.
